I think the best humor is that in which I see myself.
(Totally unrelated. Years ago I remember laughing hysterically at some comedian talking about vacuuming. You vacuum and vacuum and vacuum some random “thing” on the rug. Like the thin paper tag that sticks out of a Hershey’s Kiss. Vacuum again. The damn thing won’t vacuum. So you reach down, pick up the “thing”, and then place it on another spot on the rug to give the vacuum “another chance”. I’ve done this a million times. It’s funny because it’s stupid and silly, and all about me. Just how I like it.)
Anyway, Stuff White People Like is embarrassingly funny. Get a real workout; laugh, blush, and struggle with bladder control all at the same time.
It’s a blog that you’re best not to take too seriously, though. Just the act of recognizing self in the satire is enough for me. I don’t need to get into all the deep discussions of the big ‘R’ word.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, y’know? It’s just funny at face value.
Excuse me. I’ve got to go see about my T-shirts, count my tea bag varieties, and read the New Yorker cartoons.
Later.

Spent the weekend cleaning and organizing (kitchen, closets) and spent a ridiculous amount of time today finding a replacement pair of khakis to hang in my newly clean closet.
I didn’t knit all that much.
I have a long plane trip to Arizona coming up next week, and a week of (oh thank god) vacation coming up at the end of the month, so I guess it’s all right. That I didn’t get much knitting done.
What I did get done is alarmingly similar to what I had done last week and the week before, and just how many poorly lit shots of my Clapotis do you really want to see, anyway?
Another week looms. After my 12 day stretch ended Friday night, and I’d slugged down a nice, big, cold local brew, I tried to relax and forget about all the traumas of the week.
I’m getting a little crisp around the edges, I think. Doing this hospice thing, day in and day out, gets hard. I’m at the point now where I’ve gone too far, am too tired, getting too used up, and I can’t see the forest for the trees anymore. I’m losing my objectivity and perspective, and taking things way too personally.
Somehow I have got to pull it together again.
Knitting more might help. Right?

but…come ON.
Who is Aki Hakala, anyway?
And I do sort of see a resemblance to Elvis Costello.
At least I know who he is.
Edited to add — Aki Hakala is a drummer in a Finnish rock band.
And Miyavi is a Japanese rock musician. Who is a man, despite the decidedly feminine appearance above.
So basically what they’re saying is that I resemble a man. Not that this isn’t all good. But, still…
Nothing I didn’t already know. My boyfriend used to call me Rod Stewart, back when my hair was short and spiky.
On the feminine side of things, I resemble Stevie Nicks. (NOT. But thanks for trying.)
